Was a Third World World war in 1962 worth it?

A nuclear war in '62 could easily have affected the whole globe, not just the US and USSR. Look at the nuclear winter scenarios of the '80s. I agree the US government and culture leave much to be desired but you contradict yourself by calling the soviets too weak, while slamming US sponsored dictatorships. How could the soviet government have been stronger without being dictatorial? I agree the US will see a major internal upheaval, but IMO the result will be to end democracy.
