Good supernatural/paranormal/urban-… romance novels?

Richard Matheson's 'The Legend of Hell House' written in epistolary narrative form. There are two men and two women so it is kind of gender equal. It is set in New England USA but the film with Roddy McDowel is set in Old England UK, probably because it is old. Mrs. Barret to her husband,' What id all the fuss about, surely it is just another haunted house?' Dr.Barret's reply, ' It is the Mount Everest of Haunted houses. There were two attempts to investigate it, both ended in disaster.'
